It's `India' written
all over Tahiliani's fashion designs
Mumbai,
July 23: Tarun Tahiliani's eponymous brand is synonymous with
high style and impeccable sensibility. And living upto his name, Delhi-based
Tahiliani, the first Indian to be invited to the Milan fashion week,
unveiled his latest collection on Tuesday at the fourth Lakme India
Fashion Week currently underway in this city. Models dressed in snake
prints and fake leather showcased his ensemble in lots of texture
and tonal colours like orange, yellow and green. A management graduate
from the Wharton School of Business, Tahiliani used jewels and crystals
to drape his models ranging from veterans like Ford models Sheetal
Mallar and Vidisha Pavate to new-comers like Tapur Chatterjee, Gauhar
Khan and Michelle Innes. For Tahiliani, 'India' inspires him at work.
"The inspiration which I get when I dress women is very much goddess-like.
I like draping very much, I love the jewels of India, I love the colours
of India. We work with a lot digital ideas and I love collage. So
I tell you it was modern Indian statement," said Tahiliani.
Simi
Garewal, former Bollywood actress and a socialite, attended the show
along with stars like Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. She was quite
impressed by his collection. "This should go abroad, it's very Italian
in flavour and yet is has a touch of the Indian. It should go very
well. I saw it a touch of Kashmiri prints, embroidery...it's very
nice," said Garewal. Tahiliani, considered probably India's most established
designer in terms of infrastructure and distribution, specialises
in Indo- Western style, both pret and diffusion lines. The second
show of the evening was presented by Monisha Jaising, famous for her
pret-a-porter collections. Jaising unveiled the casual look with cotton
trousers, denims and short tops which dominated the ramp for more
than 30 minutes. Nearly 60 Indian designers are slated to showcase
their "pret-a- porter" or ready-to-wear collections at the event that
is expected to draw 15,000 spectators.
