Mumbai, July
20: India's latest fashion stop-over, it's not enough to have
just well-manicured hands. Getting nails stenciled, painted, even
pierced has become a rage in Mumbai. A large number of parlours, specialising
in nail art, have started to cash in on this latest craze. With the
ongoing Lakme India Fashion week in the commerical hub enthralling
the trendsetters and the rendfollowers alike, nail fashion has emerged
as quite a craze. The throngs that descended
at the nail bar is a testimony of the growing popularity of nail designing
and the bar. "It's picking up now, it's picking up quite a bit, it's
been there for ages really really long ago...what the Indian woman
bascially like are crystals," said a nail paint artist.
The
parlor artistically paints the nails turning them into a mini canvas,
decoratively arranging gems and foils and by piercing them with rings
and chains. Anoushka, a patron of the nail parlour said the art was
climbing up the popularity charts. "It actually is quite popular,
it's been advertised quite a lot lately, I've been seeing a lot of
it," Anoushka said.
Nail
painting, as a form of physical adornment, has come a long way since
the old ages. Today, it has evolved into a highly popular and respected
field of cosmetology. And with the ongoing Lakme India Fashion week
in the commerical hub enthralling the trendsetters and the trendfollowers
alike, nail fashion has emerged as quite a craze.
Lakme,
besides organising the fashion fest, is also attracting the visitors
by free tattooing, hair styling and nail-art. The biggest names in
the Indian Fashion industry - Ritu Kumar, Meera and Muzaffar Ali,
Hemant Trivedi, Suneet Verma and Wendell Rodricks - are displaying
their collections. Some of the big name potential buyers expected
to attend the show include luxury conglomerate Moet, Hennessy-Louis
Vuitton and British clothing retail giant Marks and Spencer. India
Fashion Week's showcases fewer internationally-known designers than
Paris, New York and Milan-relying instead on its reputation as the
breeding ground for tomorrow's Indian stars.
