RAMESWARAM Rameswaram is a small island in the Gulf of Mannar. It is an important pilgrim center. Lord Rama on return from Lanka stopped over here first for a thanksgiving to the Gods. The Ramanathaswamy temple here is well-known for its massive corridors. The sea water in front of the temple is sacred and is known as Agnitheertham. Mandapam (18 km) connects Rameswaram with the mainland.
