OOTY Located in the Nilgiris known for its fragrant tea, Ooty or Ootacamund or Udhagamandalam's major attractions are wooded blades and an enticing lake. The lake was artificially dug in 1824. On way to the Queen of Hill Stations from Coimbatore lies Coonoor. It is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris at an altitude of 1858 mts. Trekking and gliding can be undertaken in Ooty. Fishing in the streams and lakes are also allowed.
How to reach:
The nearest airport is Coimbatore, 100 km, which is connected to Chennai,
Bangalore and Mumbai. Ooty is connected to Mettupalayam by narrow guage
railway. There is regular rail service from Mettupalayam to Chennai
and Coimbatore. By road Ooty is well-connected. It is 535 km from Chennai
via Salem and Mettupalayam and 89 km from Coimbatore. There is bus service
to all places.
