The
deep depression over southwest and adjoining westcentral
Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards and intensified
into a cyclonic storm, KHAI MUK and lay centred at
1730 hours IST of 14th November over westcentral and
adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal near lat.14.0° N
and long. 84.0° E, about 400 kms east-northeast of
Chennai, about 400 km southeast of Machilipatnam.
It moved further northwestward and lay centered at
0530 hours IST of 15th November over westcentral Bay
of Bengal near lat.14.5°N and long. 83.0°E, about
270 KM southeast of Machilipatnam and about 340 KM
northeast of Chennai. The system is likely to intensify
further and move in a northwesterly direction and
cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Bapatla and Kakinada
near Machilipatinam by 15th November afternoon/evening.
Under its influence, rainfall at most places with
heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated
extremely heavy falls is likely over coastal Andhra
Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Gale winds speed
reaching 65-85 kmph gusting upto 95 kmph are likely
along and off Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole
and Visakhapatnam during the next 24 hours causing
damage to thatched huts, uprooting of trees, breaking
of tree branches causing minor damage to power and
communication lines. Squally wind speed reaching 45-55
kmph gusting to 65 kmph also likely along and off
remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh coast. Sea condition
will be very rough to high along and off Andhra Pradesh
coast. Storm surge 1-2 meter above the astronomical
tide is likely at the time of landfall over coastal
areas of Prakasham, Guntur, Krishna, west and east
Godavari districts and Yanam. Fishermen are advised
not to venture into the sea off Andhra Pradesh Coast.
Yesterday’s western disturbance over North Pakistan
and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir persists as an upper
air system. Under its influence rainfall activity
likely to increase over Jammu & Kashmir during next
24 hours.
WARNING:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over coastal
Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Gale winds
of 65-85 kmph speed along Andhra coast especially
between Ongole and Visakhapatnam will wreak damage
onshore and fishermen are warned not to venture into
the sea as it will be very rough and high.
