The
morning’s depression over southwest Bay of Bengal
moved westwards and lay centred at 0830 hours IST
on 7 December, 2008 near Lat. 8.50 N and Long. 82.50
E, about 400 km southeast of Adiramapatinam, 550 km
south-southeast of Chennai and 130 km east of Trincomalee
(Sri Lanka). The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly
direction across north Sri Lanka and cross Tamil Nadu
coast between Tuticorin & Nagapattinam, close to Tondi
by 8th December, 2008 morning. A western disturbance
as an upper air system likely to affect western Himalayan
region and adjoining plains of northwest India during
7th to 9th. The minimum temperatures are above normal
by 8-10 deg C over west Rajasthan and Saurashtra &
Kutch and by 4-6 deg C over east Rajasthan, adjoing
plains of northwest India, Gujarat region, Bihar and
northeastern states. This scenario of above normal
temperatures will continue over these regions during
the next 2-3 days and will fall thereafter.
Warning:
Isolated
heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Tamil Nadu
& Puducherry during the next 48 hours. Squally winds
speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are likely
along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts during
the next 24 hours. Sea condition will be rough to
very rough along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.

in rainfall activity is likely over south peninsula.
Fall in night temperatures over northwest and westcentral
India.
