The
deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved
westwards and lay centred at 2330 hours IST on, the
5th December, 2008 near Lat. 8.50 N and Long. 87.00
E, about 800 km southeast of Chennai, 700 km east-southeast
of Nagapattinam and 450 km east of Trincomalee (Sri
Lanka). The system is likely to intensify further
and move in a west-northwesterly direction towards
Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts skirting north Sri
Lanka coast during next 72 hours. A western disturbance
as an upper air system is approaching and is likely
to affect western Himalayan region and adjoining plains
of northwest India during 7-9 December. The minimum
temperatures are above normal by 4-8 deg C over west
and adjoining central India and by 2-4 deg C over
Bihar, west Bengal and northeastern states and parts
of Andhra Pradesh. They were below normal over some
parts of Punjab, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Warning:
Isolated
heavy to very heavy fall is likely over coastal Tamil
Nadu & Puducherry during the next 48 hours. Squally
winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph
are likely along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coast
from tomorrow morning. Sea condition will be very
rough to high along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry
coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the
sea. .
OUTLOOK
(Dec
9-Dec 11):
Fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over
extreme south peninsula and over Andaman & Nicobar
Islands. Scattered precipitation is likely over western
Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest
India. .
