The
deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved
northwestwards and lay centred at 1430 hours IST on
5th December 2008 near Lat. 8.0 deg N and Long. 88.0
deg E, about 1000 km southeast of Chennai, 950 km
southeast of Naggapattinam and 750 km east-southeast
of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka). The system is likely to
intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly
direction towards north Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and
Puducherry coast during the next 72 hours. A western
disturbance as an upper air system is approaching
and is likely to affect western Himalayan region and
adjoining plains of northwest India during 7-9 December.
Warning:
Isolated
heavy to very heavy falls is likely over coastal Tamil
Nadu & Puducherry commencing from 6th December night.
Squally winds of speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting
to 75 kmph are likely along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry
coast from 7th December morning. Sea condition will
be very rough to high along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry
coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the
sea.
OUTLOOK
(Dec
8-Dec 10): Fairly
widespread rainfall activity is likely over extreme
south peninsula and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Scattered precipitation is likely over western Himalayan
region and adjoining plains of northwest India.
