A
western disturbance is likely to affect Jammu & Kashmir
and western Himalayan region during the next 48 hours.
The well marked low pressure area over southwest Arabian
sea concentrated into a depression over the area in
the evening of 19 October. It moved northwestwards
and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of 20 October over
southwest Arabian sea near lat. 10.00N and long. 58.50E
about 950 km east-southeast of Alula of Somalia and
1000 km southeast of Salalah of Oman. The system is
likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly
direction towards north Somalia coast and Gulf of
Aden. As the system is likely to move away from the
west coast of India, it is not likely to affect India.
Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is
likely over south peninsula and Lakshadweep during
the next 2-3 days. Under the influence of easterly
winds over peninsular India, maximum temperatures
are above normal by 4-6ºC over west coast and 2-3ºC
over west and adjoining central India, these are likely
to continue for the next 2-3 days.
WARNING
(Next 48 hours): Isolated heavy rainfall is likely
over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
