Morning’s depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh moved
west-northwestwards and lay centred at 1430 hours IST on 17th June 2008 over Gangetic
West Bengal close to Burdwan about 100 km north-northwest of Kolkata. The system
is likely to move in a northwesterly direction. Under its influence, wide spread
rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely
heavy falls is likely over Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours and over
north Orissa and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours. Fairly widespread rainfall
with isolated heavy to very falls is also likely over south Orissa, Chhattisgarh
and northeastern States during next 48 hours. The axis of seasonal trough at sea
level passes through Anoopgarh, Alwar, Kanpur, Patna, centre of depression and
thence southeastwards into east central Bay of Bengal. The upper air cyclonic
circulation extending upto lower tropospheric levels over Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood
persists. The current meteorological analysis suggests fairly widespread rainfall
with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh
and Uttarakhand during the next 48 hours. Rain/thundershowers
are likely at many places over Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh and at a few
places over the rest of the region. Rain/thundershowers are likely at most places
over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and north Orissa and at many places over
the rest of the region. Rain/thundershowers are likely at many places over Arunachal
Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. Rain/thundershowers are likely at many places over
Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Rain/thundershowers are likely at a few places over
South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain/thundershower are likely
over the rest of the region. Rain/ thundershowers are likely at many places over
Konkan & Goa and east Rajasthan. Rain/ thundershowers are likely at a few places
over the rest of the region outside west Rajasthan, Marathwada and Saurashtra
& Kutch where it will be isolated. Rain/ thundershowers are likely at many places
over MP, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. Mainly
dry weather in the rest of the country. Warning
(for the next 48 hours): Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated
extremely heavy falls is likely over Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours
and over north Orissa and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy to
very heavy rainfall is likely over northeastern States, south Orissa, Chhattisgarh,
Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 48 hours.
