Soren has filed an FIR against ED officers under the SC/ST Act for the "illegal" search of his Delhi home on Tuesday and other charges. It is rumoured it will pave the way for the arrest of ED officials in the State like what Tamil Nadu Government did.
RANCHI, Jan 31: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement
Directorate (ED) on Wednesday following his questioning for over six hours in
connection with a money laundering case at his Ranchi home.
There was heavy police presence in the premises since afternoon. Section 144
ban order was also clamped.
Soren had resigned before his arrest. Transport Minister Champai Soren, who
also holds the portfolio for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Caste, and
Backward Classes, will be the new Chief Minister. Earlier it was speculated
Soren's wife Kalpana would become the CM.
Soren, 48, said he would not accept defeat. He posted on Twitter, “It's a break.
life is a great battle. I have fought every moment, I will fight every moment.
But I will not beg for compromise.”
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader was questioned in the case of a "huge
racket of illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia" in Jharkhand, ED
officials said. Fourteen people have been arrested in the case. He was earlier
questioned on January 20. A second summons was issued for this week.
The ED had been looking for him for two days as he was in transit from Ranchi
to Delhi and back and avoiding their summons. He was reported "missing" from
his Delhi residence. The ED sent teams to the airport in the national Capital
but he evaded them and travelled by road to reach Ranchi on Tuesday.
The officials had reached his Delhi home early Monday and did not find him.
They searched the house and allegedly found ? 36 lakh in cash. They also seized
his luxury SUV.

Hemant Soren is the third Jharkhand Chief Minister to be arrested. Before him,
his father Shibu Soren and Madhu Koda were arrested. Madhu Koda was jailed for
corruption during his tenure in a mining scandal while Shibu Soren was arrested
in the 1994 abduction and murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha when
he was a Central Minister.

Experts blame violation of the Visual Flying Rules (VFR) for most of the
chopper crashes in the mountains as the leading cause. VFR means fly only
visually - because of the lack of navigation aids in remote areas or unreliability
of GPS-like aids in hilly terrains or a remote manipulation of instruments
in cases of sabotage - as the topography plays havoc especially in the monsoon
(mid-June to September).
Even when VFR is followed, most crashes occur due to CFIT (Controlled Flight
into Terrain) - that is, everything else is OK but the aircraft collides with
hills or trees hidden by the clouds. This also occurs mostly in the monsoon.
On Tueday with Manang, the chopper was brand new, pilot was highly experienced.
But it hit an 'invisible' tree and then crashed against a hillside. This
CFIT occurred when the pilot tried to dodge patches of clouds even as he was
following the VFR.
Simply put, everyone knows flying in the hills during the monsoon is risky,
but the companies want to make more money in any which case. This type of
tragedy is very frequently invited in the Indian hill State of Uttarakhand
as well, where pilots are even made to fly without the mandatory rest.
