Software engineer arrested in a credit card racket

New Delhi: Anmol Gupta, software engineer by profession and a mastermind of a huge credit card racket today landed in a jail after Delhi Police Special Cell busted his racket that cheated 150 credit card owners to a tune of rupees 35 lakhs. Booked under four charges including section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, Gupta also known as Alankar Aggarwal diverted money from numerous credit card accounts to his multiple accounts through online transactions. The Special cell of Delhi Police today also seized 52 credit and debit cards with International driving licence, 11 cheque books and 3 Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards from Gupta's residence. The modus operandi of this software engineer who once also worked in a Gurgoan call centre was very simple. He used to open multiple bank accounts under fake names and used to visit various branches of the multinational banks where the credit cards were used frequently. Due to his good memory and a unique technique he used to remember the 16 digit card number by just having a glance of it. After that he used to use these numbers for online shopping and for transferring funds to his fake accounts. Using his software skills to hilt, he used to generate valid and active credit card numbers in which he used to transfer money and finally withdraw cash from numerous ATM machines. Since he did not targeted one specific group or city specific customers it became very difficult for the police to trace him. However, on Friday a fraud control unit of a multinational bank reported Police that one person is making an enquiry about the status of one suspected account. Special Cell police personnel rushed to the branch and quickly nabbed him. On interrogation Gupta accepted of carrying out the fraudulent techniques that he adopted in cheating the bonafide credit card owners. Further investigations are on to nab others who may be involved in this racket.
