Salem admits delivering of AK 56 rifles to Dutt Mumbai:
Extradited gangster Abu Salem on Wednesday confessed that he had delivered
two or three AK 56 rifles and some ammunition to actor Sanjay Dutt at
his residence before the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. The TADA court
also opened the sealed envelope containing confession of Salem to the
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to the CBI, Salem has
admitted his role in carrying out the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai,
primarily he had no idea that he was transporting weapons. Salem is facing
charges of supplying arms and ammunition to co- accused Siddiqui. The
gangster has been charged with having arranged the landing of arms and
ammunition at Dighi coast in the Raigad district before the serial bomb
blasts in the city. Police had alleged Salem was also instrumental in
the distribution of weapons to the co-accused, besides actor Sanjay Dutt.
He is also facing charges for allegedly possessing an AK-56 rifle around
that time. The crime branch Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths,
who were initially probing the case, had already recovered a spring of
the weapon at the instance of Dutt. According to the prosecution, the
weapon was melted by a co- accused in the case. The actor, however, denied
the charges. Extradited gangster Abu Salem, in his recent testimony, had
alleged that he himself had delivered the weapon to the actor at his Bandra
residence. A total of 257 people were killed and 713 injured on March
12, 1993 in serial blasts at 13 places in the city, including Bombay Stock
Exchange, Air-India building and hotels Sea Rock and Juhu Centaur, destroying
property worth Rs 27 crore. |
