Gwalior police rescues abducted youth,
busts inter-state racket

       Gwalior: Datiya police rescued a youth who was abducted from Orcha by some miscreants following a brief encounter near Tharet police station today. During the operation, the police arrested six members of an inter-state gang of kidnappers, including a home guard and seized an amount of 9.25 lakh, a Scorpio vehicle, mobile phones and some arms and ammunition. Confessing their involvement in the kidnapping case, one of the arrested said, "We planned the kidnapping and hired a Scorpio for the purpose. We kidnapped the boy and kept him in a safe place. After that we demanded a ransom of Rs 14 lakh from his family members. Out of the ransom amount, Rs 9.5 lakh was seized by the police and the rest Rs 4.5 lakh was taken away by one of our gang members". Rajiv Sarma, alias Monu was abducted by the kidnappers on December 17 who demanded an amount of Rs 60 lakh from his father, who is a doctor. Later, the deal was struck for Rs 14 lakh. Lauding the effort of the police officials involved in the operation, ML Chari, Additional SP, Tikamgarh, said, "After an encounter, we rescued the youth and arrested the miscreants. The police team did really well during the operation. We have recovered a Scorpio, two pistols, an amount of Rs 9.25 lakh and mobile phones". Elaborating on the police operation to rescue him, Rajiv Sarma said, "During the operation, police called me and instructed not to panic. I was terrified at that moment and failed to understand what was going on. The police team then entered the room where I was kept. Later, they brought me to the police station".
