An official release of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said this today, adding that the illegal set up was operational for last four months in a factory premise at Fatehgarh Churien Road in Amritsar. The illegal ILD set up had a switching capacity of 256 lines and had caused a revenue loss of over one crore rupees (nearly 226000 dollars) to the telecom operators in addition to the loss of tax revenue to the Central Government. This set up was illegal, as it was bypassing the authorised and licensed International Long Distance Operators. Apart from causing revenue loss to the country, it was also posing a threat to the national security, as international calls handled by this set-up could not be lawfully monitored, the release added.
