Illegal ILD exchange busted in Amritsar Amritsar:
Vigilance and Telecom Monitoring Cell of Department of Telecom (DoT),
with the help of Punjab Police, busted an illegal telecom network set-ups
for receiving International Long Distance (ILD) call last week in Amritsar.
An official release of the Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology said this today, adding that the illegal set up was operational
for last four months in a factory premise at Fatehgarh Churien Road in
Amritsar. The illegal ILD set up had a switching capacity of 256 lines
and had caused a revenue loss of over one crore rupees (nearly 226000
dollars) to the telecom operators in addition to the loss of tax revenue
to the Central Government. This set up was illegal, as it was bypassing
the authorised and licensed International Long Distance Operators. Apart
from causing revenue loss to the country, it was also posing a threat
to the national security, as international calls handled by this set-up
could not be lawfully monitored, the release added. The illegal set up
consisted of sophisticated telecom equipments like VSAT (Very Small Aperture
Terminal, an earthbound station used in satellite communications of data),
Router, Modems, and Switch. It was using telephone lines provided by M/s
Spice Telecom and unknown bandwitch of foreign country directly through
VSAT. Police have seized all the high-tech equipments found and was further
investigating to nab the kingpins of the illegal ILD Call operations in
India and abroad. One person has so far arrested in this connection. |
