Attari (Punjab): Sleuths of customs department have recovered fake currency notes worth Rs 2.95 lakhs from two passengers who arrived at Attari Railway Station in Samjhauta Express from Pakistan. Working on the information from intelligence, police along with customs officials arrested Aanisha and Farukhan Ahamd, residents of Saharanpur who were returning from Pakistan. "According to the information received, the 500 rupee currency notes were being smuggled in plastic brushes. On checking, lot of plastic brushes were found in the bag. After breaking the brushes, officials found 500 rupees notes. The total fake currency notes amounted 2 lakh 95 thousand rupees," said Z.R. Kambli, Assistant Commissioner, Custom and Excise department. The two accused, however, denied of being involved in the whole case. "We have to take it (plastic brushes) to Delhi. We had no clues that currency was there in it, we just knew that these were brushes," said Farukhan Ahamd, one of the accused. The duo was arrested under the Custom Act and will be presented before the court today.
