UP resident sacrifices son after visions of Kali

Lucknow: A man in Uttar Pradesh killed his four- year-old son after he started seeing visions of the Hindu goddess Kali demanding a sacrifice. The 28-year-old barber, identified as Pramod, was arrested by police on Friday on the outskirts of capital Lucknow. "The goddess appeared before me and directed me to offer either myself or my son before her. I thought since I am the sole earner in my family, what would my family do if I were no more. So I sacrificed my elder son," said Pramod, who slit the boy's throat with a razor. Pramod told police that a tantrik or a black magic practitioner had assured him that all his life's problems would be solved, if he does it. Thereafter, he saw Goddess Kali appearing before him and asking for the sacrifice. Kali is considered the destroyer of evil in the Hindu pantheon. Police, however, refutes Pramod's claim. Senior Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Pandey said that they were wary of the claim. "He took away his son, who was sleeping on the cot to another place, where he actually killed him. Everything was planned and we could not find any idol or any other material and it does not look like any sacrifice but a planned murder. We are investigating into the issue," he said. Pramod'd wife Kusum claims that her husband had developed a split personality after being served "poison" by a relative due to family property dispute.
