13 illegal telephone exchanges in Hyderabad

       Hyderabad: The Vigilance and Telecom Monitoring Cell of Department of Telecommunication and the Commissioner's Task Force of Andhra Pradesh Police busted thirteen illegal telephone exchanges here today. The crackdown was made by striking at simultaneously in the suspected locations spread over in three zones of the city by the raiding team. The Vigilance and Telecom Monitoring Cell, while monitoring of VSNL Internet ports, had identified few subscribers making heavy Internet traffic, which unveiled the illegal grey market set up. These set ups had been receiving international calls through illegal route and distributed to the public through local numbers. An official release of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said that besides causing revenue loss, these illegal set ups were posing a threat to the national security as International calls handled by these set ups could not be lawfully monitored. These illegal set ups consisted of sophisticated telecom equipments like Voice Internet Protocol (VoIP), Gateway router, Multiplexes, and modem. The police have seized the equipment, including SIM cards and arrested two persons.
