Chaibasa
(Jharkhand): As many as 27 juvenile inmates escaped from Chaibasa
Remand Home in Ranchi on Wednesday. One of the accused who has escaped
is a boy involved in Naxal activities whereas eight of them are murder
accused. Six of them are charged for rape and 12 are involved in thefts.
There were altogether 57 inmates in the remand home. Those who have escaped
scaled the wall of the home after removing a ventilator. They piled about
five tables one above the other to pass through the ventilator which was
at height of 16 feet. "When I opened the door of the room I saw that some
boys were missing. Then when we counted there were only 30 of them and
rest had run away. They had piled up tables and used them for getting
away,"said Ganga Patri, guard of the remand home. The incident came to
the notice when some of the remaining children raised an alarm. But as
most of them were asleep no one actually saw them running away. "I did
not see them escape as I was asleep. Only when Chandan bhaiya raised an
alarm then we came to know. It was 12'o' at night,"said Rahul, child inmate.
The Moffusil Police Station was informed 14 hours after the inmates had
fled. Police in neighbouring districts have also been alerted and a close
vigil is being maintained at railway stations and bus stands. |
