Jammu-Srinagar highway closed

Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day today following heavy snowfall. A portion of the 300-km-long road at Panthal, 140 kms from Srinagar, was rendered unsafe due to incessant snowfall. No vehicles, either from Jammu or Srinagar, were allowed on the arterial road. Heavy and light motor vehicles were stuck at different points on the highway since its closure, on January 16, due to landslides and shooting stones. Meanwhile, efforts are on to clear the blockades. Authorities have set up a disaster management control rooms at all the district headquarters in the Valley to tackle any eventually. Over 15 persons were killed in avalanches last week.
