Taj festival attracts thousands of tourists

Shilpgram (Uttar Pradesh): 'Taj Mahotsava', the ten-day annual festival at Shilpgram near the Taj Mahal in Agra, is drawing thousands of tourists. This was the site where the artisans who built the Taj, lived. Organised by the state tourism department, the festival will witness a culmination of art, crafts, cuisine, music and dance of the Mughal era. This year, the theme of the festival is 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam', meaning 'the entire world is one family'. "This festival is for the entire world. The Taj Festival sends out a message of unity to all," said Anita, a visitor. The main attractions at the festival will be folk music, dance, camel races and the traditional food. Famous Bollywood music director, Ismail Durbar who performed on the inaugural day of the festival on Monday was enthralled by its ambience. "We enjoyed being here. It is a mind-blowing experience for all of us here," said Ismail Durbar. A British band, a Russian ballet troupe, and a large number of Bollywood artistes, will be added attractions. The visiting tourists can have a look at the handicrafts and woodcarvings displayed during this festival. The Taj Mahal, counted amongst the Seven Wonders of the World, forms the backdrop of the festival.
