Snowfall in Srinagar draws foreign tourists

Srinagar: At a time when the residents of the Kashmir Valley are facing miseries, foreign tourists are delighted with the heavy snowfall in Srinagar. A group of tourists from Taiwan who descended in Srinagar are elated to see the snow. "I have never seen such a heavy snowfall. So I am very excited," said Hung Cha, a tourist from Taiwan. About 850 candidates for the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission have expressed disappointment as their exams, scheduled for February 9, 10 and 12, have been cancelled. "I have come from Delhi to appear for my exams, but now we are told that exams have been cancelled due to heavy snowfall, " said Krishana, a candidate. Snowfall continued in the hill town of Shimla for the sixth consecutive day and locals are facing problems in getting basic amenities. Meanwhile, 20 people have reportedly been killed and several others injured in five separate incidents of snow avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir. The 329-kilometers-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains closed for the seventh consecutive day due to heavy snowfall in the region.
