Cold wave grips Lucknow

Lucknow: Cold wave has gripped Lucknow as dipping temperatures make life difficult for the people. Sudden dip in temperatures over past few days has led to fog enveloping the city particularly in the mornings. Besides the fog, the sun playing hide and seek behind a partially overcast sky has added to the chilly conditions. "It is very cold. We are facing difficulties. The fog makes it difficult to see the road ahead. There are chances of accidents," said Ram Singh, a rickshaw puller. According to state's meteorological department, the sudden change in weather is due to cyclonic circulations over north India and a trough passing from west. Heavy snowfall in the Himalayas and cold winds blowing into the plains of north India is also the reason cited behind the chilly weather.
