Malaysian kids doing well after surgery in Bangalore

Kuala Lumpur: Two Malaysian children with heart ailments are recuperating well after undergoing successful surgeries at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore on December 11. The kids, Ang Xiao Xuan, 3, from Penang and Maisaiyida Mohmad Afandi, 6, of Johor, would most probably return home in two weeks. And another 10-year-old patient, Muhammad Khairul Shahrizat from Pekan, Pahang, will be undergoing surgery tomorrow (Dec 16). "They are doing fine after the operation. We took about two to four hours to complete the main operation," The New Straits Online quoted Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman of the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute as saying. Malaysian Health Ministry has been sending children with congenital heart diseases to India for surgery, as the treatment in India is cheaper and the waiting period is much shorter compared with hospitals in Kuala Lumpur. Since the last eight months, 22 children have been operated in the Bangalore hospital, where the surgery cost is half that of the cost in Malaysia. The premier heart hospital offers an integrated healthcare, and almost 20 per cent of the total heart patients treated here are foreigners.
