Vasectomy for deer in Gwalior zoological park
Gwalior
(MP): Authorities of a zoo in Gwalior are adopting
various measures to control the ever-increasing population
of deer in the zoological park. In order to contain the
growing population of herbivorous animals inside the Gandhi
Zoological Park, the zoo authorities have decided to conduct
vasectomy on the male animals. A special group of veterinary
doctors have been called from Jabalpur to conduct vasectomy
of the adult male deer and other animals in the Gandhi
Zoology Park. They include male blackbucks, blue cows
and deer. A number of animals have already undergone vasectomy
at the operation hall of the zoo's health care center.
During the operations, the sperm nerves of these male
animals were removed. By this, although they still will
be able to have intercourse but would not be able to reproduce
any more. "In our country, the population of the animals
in zoos is on an increase. The population of blackbucks,
blue cows has seen an increase recently and it is creating
a problem for the zoo authorities. In order to solve this
problem, zoo authorities have suggested controlling the
rising number of these animals," said S K Mittal, Doctor,
Gandhi Zoological Park, Gwalior.
