Dead tigress found in Corbett Park

Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand): Wildlife officials have discovered a dead tigress inside the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand. The 10-year-old dead tigress was found near the Ramganga river that flow through the park. No injuries were sighted on the tigress. Officials are awaiting a post mortem report to ascertain the actual cause of the death. "The tigress, aged around 10 years, was found dead near the river in the Mohanpani area on Thursday. A team of veterinarians from Pant Nagar has taken samples of blood and viscera and the real cause of death would be ascertained only when the reports come in," said Vinod Kumar Singhal, Director, Corbett National Park. Many tiger deaths have been reported from Corbett National Park in recent years. A century ago, there were about 40,000 tigers in India. Now, there are about 3,700 of them left. Some environment groups, however, put the number at fewer than 2,000.
