Emigration Act may be amended

          New Delhi: In order to promote overseas employment and for the better protection of emigrant workers, the Govt is considering amendment to the Emigration Act, 1983, according to Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes. He told the Rajya Sabha that it is proposed to include penal provisions against the offence of human smuggling and stringent regulation of the recruiting agents, including laying down service standards for them. "There is no proposal for setting up special courts. The amendments are under finalisation," he said.
