Intense heat in north India, snowfall in Kashmir

New Delhi: In North India, the temperature soared to over 45 degree Celsius in most parts. On Saturday, Hissar in Haryana recorded the highest temperature at 45.6 degrees Celsius, while in the national capital temperature rose to 44 degree Celsius, making it the hottest June day in the last two years. The weatherman attributes the rise in temperature to northwesterly winds and absence of an upper air circulation system. However, the regular snowfall in Pahalgam has sent fresh chill in the Valley leading to a huge influx of tourists. The unusual summer snow has made the mercury dip with night temperature going down to around 5 degrees centigrade, 10 degrees below normal. But plains of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan are experiencing sudden rise in temperature with no convectional rainfall in the region. This is in complete contrast to the month of May where usual showers brought the temperature down. The Meteorological Department had then termed it the coolest month of May in the recent years. However, the Department has no such comforting predictions for now, as the temperature is expected to go even further in the region.
