Travel and tourism writer Ravinder Seth is dead
New Delhi: Ravinder Seth, a well-known
travel and tourism writer, passed away in New Delhi. He was 82. Seth had
been one of the earliest correspondents of All India Radio in 1948. He
also worked as Public Relations Officer of the Indian Army and served
with United Nations Force in Congo in 1961-62. Later he joined the Press
Institute of India as Editor. Seth also worked as Director of Communications
with India Tourism Development Corporation. He was among the pioneers,
who promoted travel and tourism journalism in the country. In 1972, he
joined the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to direct its
public relations activities. He retired as its vice-president in 1983.
Prior to his death, Seth was a consultant with several hotel chains in
the country, including the Taj and Maurya Hotel Groups. He was the editor
of MICE India, a publication of Worldroom Inc. His column -- Capital View
-- was published in the Indian Express Group's Express Hospitality section.
He was a contributor to other travel journals, mainstream newspapers and
magazines. His writings on tourism and aviation were recently published
in two volumes of Tourism in India -- An Overview.
