Heaters
for animals in Patna zoo Patna: A Patna zoo has made special arrangements by providing room heaters to animals inside their enclosures at the zoo for the winter. Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan (or, Zoological Park) in Patna has provided straw mats and electric heaters in enclosures of animals to keep them warm. Lions and tigers have been given straw mats and room heaters while reptiles are warming up under high-voltage bulbs.
According to Subhash Verma, the Deputy Director
of the Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park, keeping the cold outside, the animals'
diet has also been changed. "The winters have started late this time but
for the past three days the temperatures have fallen. We have heaters
and blowers for the animals especially for the big cats looking at the
fall in temperature. We have also increased their diet," he said. While
cold conditions are prevailing in the eastern part of the country, seasonally
low temperatures of around 4 degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit) have
made it a bitter winter in northern India. At least 27 people, most of
them homeless, have died due to the cold over the last month.
