Buddhists
for new route to Kailash Mansarovar Jammu: Buddhists in Jammu and Kashmir began a march to New Delhi demanding a new pilgrimage route to Kailash Mansarovar via Ladakh. "The State Government of Ghulam Nabi Azad is opening the border with Pakistan. It is such a good thing. But now that the government has said that China is our friend, they should also open the way to Kailash. It is our right. Kailash is not only for the people of Leh district. Hindus
want to go to Kailash and get the blessings of Lord Shiva. We want that
the route to Kailash be opened so that we can go there. In fact, trade
with Tibet should be resumed," said Tashies, the president of the association.
The pilgrimage to Mount Kailash - Mansasrovar through the Indian side
is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) along with other
agencies like the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN). Hundreds of devotees
trek the mountain path every year to the twin shrines that fall on either
side of Indian border. The yatra season starts in early June and the last
batch starts the pilgrimage as late as end of August.
