Shimla has fresh snowfall Shimla:
Tourists are making merry in Shimla as the Himachal hill resort received
fresh snowfall on Tuesday. The hilly terrain has been covered in a blanket
of snow after receiving over 30 cms of snow on Sunday. Enveloping treetops,
buildings, roads and vehicles, snow has lent pure white look to the city.
"It's very beautiful. We didn't expect to snow here. It is very cold here,"
said Christine Brooks, a tourist from Britain. "We are enjoying very much.
It's very cold here," said Jasbir, a tourist from neighbouring Punjab
state. Neighbouring areas of Narkanda and Kufri also received heavy snowfall.
On the other hand, the snowfall has disrupted normal life and brought
road transport to a standstill with several towns and villages becoming
almost inaccessible. "It's very cold, people are facing problems, vehicles
are not plying and villages are cut off," said Kedar, a local resident.
Tourists and locals alike found themselves trudging through snow- covered
streets. The economy of picturesque Himachal Pradesh is heavily dependent
on tourism. More than three million domestic and foreign tourists visit
the state annually.
