Cold wave, rain in Himachal Pradesh

      Shimla: Cold wave intensified in Himachal Pradesh. The high altitude areas experienced fresh snowfall. There was widespread rain in the mid and lower areas. Areas like Kinnuar, Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu, Sirmaur, Shimla, Mandi and Kangra received fresh snow, while rains continued to lash the lower areas of the state. The met office said Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul Spiti district, had received about a foot of snow since last night, while Solang Nullah had recorded about four inches of snow till 2.30 p.m. Lahaul, Spiti and Pin Valleys and Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul S`iti, were also experiencing intermittent snow since Friday night.

     The Manimesh, Gabhrasu Lakes, the Saach, Kuti, Chobia and Kali Chu Passes in Chamba district too experienced heavy snowfall, disrupting vehicular traffic between Chamba-Killar. The mid and lower areas of Himachal were being lashed by heavy rains since last night and early in the day and the entire state was in the grip of an intense coldwave. Shimla experienced intermittent rainfall this afternoon, while the key tourist resort of Narkanda in Shimla district received snow. Rain was also reported in Chopal, Kothkhai Theog and other areas of the district. The minimum temperature in Shimla was 5.6 degree Celsius, while the minimum at Sundernagar and Bhuntar was 9.6 and 8.4 degree Celsius respectively.
