Pakistan
to relax visa policy to attract Quetta: Pakistan Tourism Minister Nilofar Bakhtiar has said that Islamabad was softening its visa policy for 24 countries, including India, to attract more tourists. This year has been declared 'Visit Pakistan Year'. Reviewing
the arrangements made for the upcoming Sibi festival, Bakhtiar said Balochistan
had tremendous potential to attract foreigners to its tourist destinations.
She said that the federal government was trying its best to promote tourism
in Balochistan, and special financial assistance would be provided for
this purpose. "There are scores of beautiful and historical places in
the country that can be of great interest to foreigners. Balochistan's
geographical diversity and extremely rich culture makes it a unique and
picturesque destination for foreigners," the Daily Times quoted her as
saying. The minister further said that a peaceful environment was necessary
for a tourist-friendly atmosphere, therefore, "Balochistan should co-operate
with the government in brining peace to the province." The Pakistan government
would take special steps to promote the Sibi festival - Balochistan's
largest traditional and cultural event, she said and added that diplomats
from various countries and journalists would be invited to visit this
year's festival. "In addition to the Sibi festival, there is also a need
to introduce the historical temple in Hangor and the beautiful costal
areas of Mekran to the rest of the world," added Nilofar.
