Jaipur hotels have brisk `Shravan' business
by Lokendra Singh

Jaipur: The luxury hotels of Rajasthan did good business in the holy month of Shravan by serving up ethnic vegetarian cuisine. Jaipur's Park Plaza hotel had a 10-day special 'Sawan Ka Khana Utsav' or a Shravan cuisine festival. Bitter gourd, leaves of fenugreek, Gatta Ki Sabzi, a cuisine prepared from gram flour, and Rajasthani Khichdi, a combination of rice and lentils, were some of the special items on offer during the festival. Anil Goyal, the head chef at the Park Plaza, said: "We have more of seasonal vegetables in our menu. We have prepared a layout of the regional specialties of food after conducting trials throughout the year. Based on the feedback received from people, this daily menu was organised." Hindus avoid eating non-vegetarian food during Shravan. "I liked the food very much. Normally, this kind of food is not prepared at home. So, when you get such food, it feels good," said Anup Mathur, a visitor. Retail garment outfits in Jaipur too have also had good sales. The demand for designer Rajasthani Lahariya (hand-dyed fabrics) sarees has been high during the month of Shravan. "Women wear traditional Lahariya sarees and go to their in-laws houses," said Bhagirath Prasad Sharma, a seller. There are around 10 to 12 types of Lahariya sarees.
