Tourists flock to Chhattisgarh

Bastar (Chhattisgarh): Tourists from abroad continue to visit Chhattisgarh to enjoy the scenic beauty of the state, despite it being a hotbed of Maoists. Bastar, one of the most worst rebel dominated areas where repeated incidences of blowing up railway tracks and vandalising of rich houses comes up now and then, is also house to some of the picturesque locations. Domestic as well as foreign tourists visiting the state appreciated its scenic beauty. "I have visited Orissa and Bastar. The place is nice and interesting," said Alina, a tourist from Italy . Domestic tourists feel the place would draw more visitors if steps were taken to revamp the infrastructure in the region. "The place is beautiful and has many places to see as for example the waterfalls. But it place needs to be developed. There is a problem of accommodation here," said Saryar. Chhattisgarh is one among the worst affected of 13 states hit by the Maoist insurgency. Officials say at least 260 people have been killed in rebel violence in the state since January, mostly poor Tribals. The police in the state killed at least five Maoist rebels on Sunday.
