Tourists visit Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh Kalpa (Himachal Pradesh): Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur District is known for its rich natural resources and cultural heritage and it has always been a favourite with tourists. One of the most frequented destinations in the district is the village of Kalpa which is located at a height of 10,900 feet and is 265 km ahead of Shimla, the state capital. Situated at the base of Kinner Kailash, this hamlet is predominantly inhabited by Kinnauris. Tourists say they are spell- bound by the snow- clad mountain peaks. "Well, it's amazing, it's beautiful. You can see the high mountains behind me. The people are very nice. The small village is beautiful," said Lawrence, a Spanish tourist. The village has a treasure trove of ancient Hindus and Buddhistm flourish here. Residents
say that with the Himachal Pradesh Government declaring the village a
heritage site, the inflow of tourists has increased. Business prospects
for locals have also grown. "The tourist inflow is more now. Earlier,
there was no means to come here, but tourists can come here now without
any permit. The business has also grown for hoteliers, guides and for
most of the educated unemployed youths," said Daleep Negi, the President
of the Kalpa Panchayat in Kinnaur. In ancient times, Kalpa served as a
centre of meditation for sages. "It has been a heritage village since
the ancient times when the sages used to visit it," said Deepak Negi,
the President of the Hotel and Travel Guide Association. Kalpa is also
popular for its apples. A large number of tourists enjoy eating the fruit.
Trekking to the Kinner Kailash Mountain is an adventurous experience to
the visitors. Kalpa can be reached by by road, train or by an air via
Shimla.The best time to visit this hamlet is from April to October. |
