Search for missing Japanese boy stepped up New
Delhi: A search is on for Kota Shinozaki, a young Japanese student
who has been missing since he arrived in New Delhi on September 3, 2006.
Kota's parents, Shigru and Eikoms Shinozaki, recently arrived in India
nearly a month after he went missing. The Japanese Embassy, in coordination
with the local administration and police has speeded up their search for
the boy ever since. "We have three consulates in India - in Kolkata, Chennai
and Mumbai. We have already requested them to make contact with the local
governments," Ryu Gi Noda, First Secretary, Japanese Embassy, told reporters
at a news conference here on Saturday. Twenty-one year old Kota, a Tokyo
resident, left for India for a month-long vacation in September this year.
"He did arrive at IGI (Indira Gandhi International Airport), because we
do have immigration records. After that, he exchanged money- one hundred
American dollars- at an exchange booth in the arrival terminal. We have
checked already but after that... no clue. The police has already checked
guest houses in Paharganj, with rickshaw people, taxi people and prepaid
taxi also, of course. But unfortunately they do not have a clue," said
Noda. His parents, however, did not have any specific information about
his itinerary. With no contact by Kota for a long time after that, his
parents notified the Japanese foreign ministry after which the Japanese
Embassy in New Delhi filed a missing person's report with the Delhi Police.
Authorities are also scanning Japanese hotels and restaurants in the city.
The Delhi Police has even sent search teams to Buddhist religious places
in India like Sarnath and Bodh Gaya.
