Chidambaram opens Khadi Expo New Delhi: Union Finance Minister P.Chidambaram inaugurated a four-day National Expo of Small, Khadi, Village and Coir Industries on Wednesday at the Ashok Hotel here. Mahabir Prasad, Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries presided over the function. "Micro small enterprises and medium enterprises play an important part on our economy. 40 percent of the country industrial outputs are to this sector. We have suggested to banks that 60percent of all the credit extended to this micro enterprises are not able to avail of credit in qualities, they need or. based. We have already directed the commercial banks to dispense with . security for loan up to rupees five lakh," said Chidambaram. The National Expo of Small, Khadi, Village and Coir Industries are jointly organized by Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and Coir Board (CB). "We are now expanding the credit guarantee schemes. This is been implemented by the credit guarantee trust for small industries, set up jointly by the Government of India," said Chidambaram. The
expo focused on various innovative products, processed food items, ceramics,
leather goods, handicrafts, etc. 160 Units from various States and Union
Territories are participating in this Expo. One hundred Stalls manned
by National Awardees are displaying their products. The exhibition will
remain open from 10.00 a.m . to 9.00 p.m. on all four days and entry is
free. The expo will also showcase electrical and electronics, ayurvedic
and herbal products, machine tools, rubber, PVC and plastic goods, cosmetic
items, domestic appliances, agro and food products and general village
industries items. Three seminars are being organized by NSIC, KVIC and
CB on 4th, 5th and 6th October, 2006, respectively. Besides, an open house
discussion on Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 will
also be organized on 7th October 2006. |
