Hyderabad to have Saudi consulate Hyderabad:
Hyderabad, which has historical ties with Saudi Arabia, will soon
have a Saudi consulate. Talks are on between the foreign ministries of
India and Saudi Arabia on the issue, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to India
Saleh Al- Ghamdi said during a reception organised by Andhra Pradesh Chief
Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in the honour of visiting Saudi Minister
for Higher Education, Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed. The consulate will make
it easier for the people of Hyderabad to secure visas to Saudi Arabia
and will further enhance ties between the two countries, Al-Ghamdi said.
A large number of people from Andhra Pradesh work in Saudi Arabia, and
there is a local demand for a consulate, he said. The Saudi consulate
will be the third foreign consulate in the city. The Iranian and American
consulates have been operating in the city for years. The Khalid Bin Mohammed-led
delegation visited important centres of information technology and higher
education in Hyderabad, including Hitec City, the International Institute
of Information Technology and Satyam Computers. Mohammed expressed a keen
interest in fostering a relationship with India in the field of higher
education, especially in computer and life sciences. He suggested an exchange
programme for students and faculties to the Hyderabad University Vice
Chancellor Ihtesham Hasnain. |
