Water awareness march begins in Rajasthan

Sikar (Rajasthan): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje flagged off a month-long water awareness march from here on Tuesday that will cover at least 18,000 villages in the largely parched north western state. The "Jal Chetana Yatra" , which commenced with slogans such as "Water Will Ensure A Safe Tomorrow" and "Every Drop Is Precious", aims to educate the desert state's rural population about water conservation and modern irrigation techniques. Flagged off from other district headquarters as well, the march will also see the participation of several state cabinet ministers. In her speech to the gathering at Sikar, Raje said that she was hopeful about the march creating over 100,000 additional water bodies, besides the setting up of public grievance camps to address issues like land revenue loans, rural development initiatives, credit cards for farmers and local development works. The Rajasthan Government is also reportedly keen on developing the technical skills of farmers so that they are in a position to use water optimally in the future.
