Sprinklers,
room coolers to beat Nagpur:
As temperature continues to soar across the country, zoo authorities
are taking extra care of their inmates in helping them to beat the heat.
The caretakers of the zoo in Nagpur have arranged water sprinklers and
room coolers to help the animals bear the rising mercury. With maximum
temperature hovering around 45 degree Celsius, officials at the Maharajbagh
Zoological Park here are working overtime these days to protect the animals.
"To save the animals from soaring temperatures we have put mattresses,
we also splash water two times in a day and also have room coolers for
animals," said Mahesh Pande, a zoo official. Intense heat wave conditions
are prevailing over several parts of northwest India, Maharashtra and
Madhya Pradesh, according to the Meteorological Department. Reports say
the heat wave has claimed at least fifty lives so far. Summer months in
the country have always brought miseries to people across the country.
Power and water shortage hit several million households, especially in
the months of May and June. However, with the arrival of monsoon, people
get some respite from the soaring temperatures and water woes. This year,
the Meteorological Department has predicted a near normal monsoon, though
there could be a shortfall of 10-15 per cent. |
