IGI airport to go customer-friendly

New Delhi: The recent increase in air traffic in the country is having a widespread effect in the airline industry. And, with this boom, this sector is bound to attract more customers, which means more congestion. However, with even more passengers expected to avail the air service in the coming years, the Indira Gandhi International Airport here is all set to get a new look and become more passenger-friendly. The GMR-Fraport consortium, which recently won the bid for modernisation of the Delhi airport, will soon come up with more help-desks, as one of its modernisation plans of the IGI airport. Travellers roaming around at airports like lost is a quite familiar scene, but in order to make it a part of the history, the IGI airport will soon have help-desks at both the international and the domestic terminals, particularly for the first-time visitors. According to the GMR-Fraport officials, the help-desks, which would be set up within the terminal, would help passengers right from their entry to the airport till they board the flights.

According to the Operation, Management and Development Agreement (OMDA) singed between the Airport Authority of India (AAI) GMR- Fraport, the consortium will work for the modernisation of the Delhi airport for an initial term of 30 years, which is extendable to a further period of 30 years. The GMR consortium comprises of GMR Group, Fraport, Eraman Malaysia, and IDF. GMR Group is the leading Infrastructure Company in the country having developed 6 green field projects with interests in Airports, Power and Roads. The Group is also presently involved in developing the new international airport at Hyderabad. Under the OMDA, AAI has given the right to GMR-Fraport consortium to undertake various airport functions, including operations, maintenance, development, design, construction and management of the airport.
