Heat waves sweep Lucknow

Lucknow: A heat wave is on in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow. According to the State's meteorological department, residents of the city will have no respite from the heat as temperatures are likely to rise in May and June. "The summer season has started and the rise in temperatures is quite natural. Humidity is the major cause for discomfort among the residents of Lucknow. It is just a beginning, the temperature is likely to rise. We are anticipating 45 degree Centigrade by end of May and first week of June," said R. K. Verma, Director, Meteorological Department. The residents are already worried about the heat wave conditions. "With summers at its peak, we are facing a lot of problems. We go out with our head and bodies properly covered to avoid heat stroke," said Tanveer, a resident. "We are facing lot of problems due to the heat. We are finding it difficult to commute during the day. People are finding it difficult to work in the sun," said Ramesh Vajpayee, another resident. Normally, during April, humidity levels are 10 to 15 per cent. Winds coming in from east pushes humidity levels to the 40 to 50 per cent mark.
