2,989 pilgrims leave for Amarnath shrine Jammu:
A batch of 2,989 pilgrims, including 114 children, has left for the
Amarnath cave shrine from the base camp at MAM stadium here on Monday.
Official sources said the devotees left in a convoy of 124 vehicles at
5.20 this morning escorted by security forces. The annual pilgrimage usually
confined to one month period has been extended to two months this year.
The pilgrimage to Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir has turned out to be
a staggered one due to inclement weather. It was suspended for four days
earlier this month due to bad weather. A batch of 3,214 pilgrims, which
included 121 children, left on Sunday. So far, over 10,000 pilgrims have
left for the cave shrine, using the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. The routes
were first opened on June 10. Security forces have been placed on high
alert along the entire route of the Amarnath yatra to ensure pilgrim safety.
