Controversial Bangalore - Mysore Bangalore:
The first phase of 9.8 kms of the controversial Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure
Corridor (BMIC) project built by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise
(NICE) was inaugurated on Friday with the State government giving it a
miss. With the State Government having registered their opposition to
the project by not participating in the inauguration ceremony, Ashok Kheny,
Chairman of the NICE Company said: "Now that the road is open it is time
to sit down and work out the problems so the people get the benefit".
However, he added that whatever might be the hurdles he would go ahead
with the construction of the road. This was demonstrated by the ignoring
the notice from the PWD that instructed NICE not to go ahead with the
opening, as the road had not been inspected. It took more than 13 years
for the NICE to open a section of the peripheral ring road connecting
Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road, measuring 9.8 kilometers. According to
Kheny he had already invested around rupees 700 crores on the project.
The controversial project have already cracked the BJP-JD (S) coalition
as BJP has opposed Chief Minister's desire of taking over the private
project by the Government. However, the BJP stood by its stand and opposed
the taking over of the project by the state government. |
