Fog delays flights from New Delhi New
Delhi: Several flights were delayed or diverted on Friday as a surprise
fog enveloped capital New Delhi. Thousands of passengers were stranded
at the domestic and international airports, as majority of the flights
did not take off due to poor visibility. Traffic on the roads was also
affected, with visibility coming down to 50 metres in the wee hours. Air
passengers had a harrowing time with delayed flights leading to crowding
at the airport lounges. Some 60 domestic flights were affected. "I had
an early morning flight but now it has been delayed. We had meetings at
around 9 in the morning in Bangalore but they are cancelled. Now we are
waiting to get another flight," said Kulmeet, an executive stranded at
the airport. Umang Bedi, another passenger, said: "My flight was in the
morning at 6.30. I was to attend a meeting, which has now been cancelled.
We are facing a lot of problems as there is no place to sit at the lounge
and the waiting area is also full. We have no place to sit. So we are
standing out in cold". The schedules of all private carriers like Air
Sahara and Jet Airways were affected while state-run Indian Airlines re-
christened Indian diverted its incoming flights.
