Pahalgam can help you hone your skiing skills

Pahalgam (J-K): Tourists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir are having a great time learning the basics of skiing in a training camp being organised by the state government's tourism department in cooperation with the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering as a part of winter sports. Local residents have also welcomed the Skiing training camp, and expressed hope it would generate good income in the near future. As news of the ongoing training camp spread by word of mouth, many tourists from across the country started thronging Pahalgam just to learn skiing.

"I heard the news that skiing has started in Pahalgam from last year, so we thought of coming here. We are really feeling very good, especially after seeing so many children learn skiing. We are here for a 15 days training course and hope to learn skiing. It feels very fascinating and involves everyone deeply in it. I am loving it here," said Veena Sharma, a tourist. Children are also enjoying the training camp. "We have come here to learn skiing. We are benefiting a lot from this training camp. The trainers are working really hard and we are also putting in our efforts to learn as much as possible during the course," says Aashiq Hussain, a student. The area's local residents are nurturing big expectations from the training camps, as it would bring more tourists to the area. Nazir Ahmed, a photographer, said that such training camps would help locals earn their livelihood because tourism is a major source of income in the Valley. "I am a photographer and during the training courses I take photographs of children who are skiing. Our business benefits from such training camps. It's not only us but people having sledges, horses and other things related to winter sports who benefit from such camps," said Nazir. Training courses for winter sports at Pahalgam started last year. This year a batch of 40 students including locals participated in the training camp.
