Dalai
Lama inaugurates International Conference in Nalanda Nalanda:
On the occasion of the 2550th anniversary of 'Mahaparinirvana' of
Lord Buddha, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama today inaugurated a three-day
International Conference on heritage of India at the historic city of
Nalanda in Bihar. Asoka mission, a premier Buddhist organization is organizing
the conference in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Ministry
and the Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, an autonomous institution under the Ministry
of Culture. Scholars from different fields like history, archaeology,
art, philosophy and religion will be attending the conference from different
continents- Asia, Europe, North America and South America- to deliver
lectures on the seven themes related to the heritage of Nalanda. More
than 300 delegates from 27 countries, including the US, Britain, Sri Lanka,
Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Sweden, South
Korea, Cambodia, Nepal, Russia, Singapore and Thailand, including India,
are attending the conference. This will be an important event and first
of its kind in the year-long celebrations of the 2550th anniversary of
the Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha. The Union Ministry of Culture has
set up a national committee, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,
for this grand conference. Bihar Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and spiritual
leaders like Je Khenpo from Bhutan and Khambo Lamas from Mongolia and
Russia will also participate in the conference. Dalai Lama is on a five-day
visit to attend various programmes at Central Institute of Higher Tibetan
Studies.. |
