Snowfall
cheers up tourists in Kufri town
by Nagendra Ranta
Kufri: In a pristine blanket of white,
Himachal Pradesh's hill-town Kufri is attracting hundreds of tourists.
Kufri is 15 kilometres from Shimla. The tourists and the newly wed couples,
who were enjoying their visit to the hilly town during winters, are delighted
to watch a fresh spell of snowfall in the region. Situated at an altitude
of 9,000 feet, Kufri town has received 10 centimetres of snow, as the
region witnessed its second snowfall this season. Enthusiastic tourists
gleefully played in the snow, making snowmen and throwing snowballs at
each other. "It's totally snowed out here as you can watch it yourself.
We are really enjoying and having a gala time," said Rajat Maheshwari,
a tourist from New Delhi. For another tourist Joshika Biswas from Kolkata,
the snow is a joy not people in West Bengal or other parts of the country
can enjoy so easily. "We are enjoying ourselves very much over here. We
wanted to see snow and we have got this opportunity to see it and we are
very happy," said Joshika. Over the past few days, heavy snowfall has
also been reported in Shimla, another tourist hot spot, where many people
were seen braving the elements and walking through the downpour. For locals,
it is the best time of the season when they enjoy the arrival of big number
of tourists with boosts sales of goods available with them. Over three
million domestic and foreign tourists visit Himachal Pradesh, also known
for its traditional lifestyle and revered as city of Gods.
